Fleas are parasites that are very small. Protect your cat with a parasite prevention plan.
Fleas are a large nuisance for cats and the owner. They will live on both the cat and the environment of the pet.
You will notice that your cat has fleas by seeing the flea move on the skin and noticing black specks (flea dirt) on both the cat and in the environment.
Fleas can harm cats especially if they have a flea allergy or there are a large number of fleas. They can get skin irritation or contract tapeworms or other diseases from the fleas.
Treatment and prevention is very important because a large number can cause anemia in the patient and even death. Fleas also will bite humans and cause excessive itching which can be very irritating to the skin.
Some simple steps to treat fleas in the senior cat is to be on a monthly topical for 3 consecutive months. This is because fleas have a long life-cycle so we must make sure they are totally removed from the pet and environment. Regular vacuuming of the house especially where the cat sleeps or any carpet is also a good idea.
